About PADV
 
 
PADV is a local non-government organization which was established in 1995 following a research study in 1994 “Plate in a Basket will Rattle” which was organized by the Secretariat of State for Women Affairs and sponsored by USAID through The Asia Foundation and UNICEF. The organization was registered officially on 11 August 1997. Project Against Domestic Violence (PADV) focuses on the prevention, reduction and elimination of domestic violence, and other human rights abuses such as human trafficking, and the abuse of children. PADV is known for its lobbying and advocacy role

with Government and continues to work collaboratively with other NGO's, government departments, women, children, perpetrators of violence and communities. PADV has achieved success in developing local based networks which are build upon existing communal structures and other traditional frameworks, which support the wellness of the community. PADV continues to adapt to a changing environment by developing innovative ways to strengthen local community networks and capacities in regard to achieving the prevention, reduction and elimination of domestic violence and other human rights abuses. Education and training on the prevention, reduction and elimination of domestic violence which includes all members of the community (children, adults, officials, village chiefs, and other interested parties).
Education and training with government and other NGO workers on the prevention, reduction and elimination of domestic violence.

Education and training on direct interventions to reduce and eliminate domestic violence.

Facilitating the development and strengthening of local Family Protection Networks Program(FPNP). Local level networks comprised of Village Chief, Commune Council Chief, District and Village Women, Ministry of Women's Affairs, Police, and local youth. Workshops and training are provided to the networks by PADV, one of the objectives is to support the communities to find local solutions to problems which are unique to their community.

Monitoring the success and/or challenges of direct local interventions through contact with victims and their families and feedback from community members and local network members.
Providing local prevention programs through closed and open group discussions. These groups aim to change the beliefs, attitudes and behavior of both perpetrators and victims of domestic violence. The group process is both educational and therapeutic.

Utilizing local and national media including television and radio to ensure that as many members of Cambodian society as possible are reached, become aware of the issues surrounding domestic violence, and that it is never acceptable. PADV also utilizes alternative and create avenues to further reach the people such as through contemporary theatre,radio talkback and quiz shows, which raise public awareness regarding domestic violence and provide useful information for the audience and participants. PADV designs, produces and distributes many other educational resources such as posters, t shirts, books and leaflets. The design of these materials are based on the unique demographics of the Cambodian population (this includes appropriate cultural messages, and consideration of the high levels of illiteracy).
