Some examples of the activities:
I. Student Forum : (Students from grade 7 up to grade12)
It provides school and university students with more confidence and openness in talking about domestic violence issues, gender equality, women’s empowerment and how to assist each other in school and their communities. Each forum has taken between two or three hours which was enough for students to fully discuss a variety of issues namely domestic violence and root causes, the effects of domestic violence on family members, the intervention, gender equality and gender responsibility, trafficking and sexual abuse as well as domestic violence law. It was observed in all of the schools reached, students were very active in any discussion they joined as they expressed their opinions related to the topics in a productive way and they also committed to share their learning with friends in and out of school and relatives in the commune after the forum. Importantly, they recognized that domestic violence is no longer a private matter but a social illness which requires a social response. They even believed that domestic violence law helps reduce violence and in subsequently protects victims. Most amazingly those students supported the punishment to those who committed violence and/or trafficking. Also, they understood the important role of community and local authorities in taking actions against any kinds of violence in their communities. |
